Problem: How to keep in touch with old friends from high school when your graduation predated the invention of the Web by years.

Solution: Third-party Web sites that provide online meeting places for alumni. Both Alumni.Net (http://www.alumni.net) and High School Alumni (http://www.highschoolalumni.com) offer about the same degree of utility: Either site encourages you to register (at no cost), but you can still search for names without registering first. Both sites also hide the e-mail addresses of alumni from spammers by requiring correspondents either to register first or relay a message by filling out a form at the site. (A third site, ClassMates.com, requires a $25 registration fee before you can contact anybody listed there.) For most folks, the "better" site will simply be the one with more listees from their alma mater--it's a popularity contest, much like most of high school itself.
